Hi, my name is Agustin Ruiz, I come from a family of designers,
weavers and sewers (the andean mountains in Ecuador).
Leather was the first medium I learned to sew.
I made shoes but even then I wasn’t satisfied with the mundane. I
started to mix colored leather because I wanted a product that was different
and unique to me.
I liked putting many textures and colors together, to see what would
happen. Most of the time it
worked or it would lead to something new.
Then I transferred to the upholstery fabric bags and vests, that I make
today.

TECHNIQUE
Part of my technique involves finding the right
fabric in terms of color, texture and quality. I hand cut every design, so
that edges match and the design is balanced. After cutting the fabrics and
linings, I stitch them together and finish all the edges by using a
heavy duty serging sewing machine, so the edges
would secure and the bag would be strong
Another feature that
makes my bags unique is the use of: seeds and nuts from
palm trees. These are hand collected, cut and polished to be used on
the
zipper pulls. So, my bags are made to last for a
long long time.
